“Here is a curiousity box for you. Isn’t it worth a penny a look? The box is made up of mosses and fungi found around our camp. When yours was finished it was so pretty that I made one for myself. The box which Leonard mailed from Eureka is for a window box –wild iris (of which Mother can tell you), geranium and redwood ferns. We will break camp early tomorrow morning, expecting to arrive home sometime Sun. evening.
We are breaking camp now. –and hate it. I have not yet resolved an explanation, but I dread going back to the office grind. Myrtle suggested that we stay here all winter and that I get work splitting grape stakes out of redwood. I slept on the mountain top again night before last, without blankets, and with a small fire which I had to wake up and replenish at intervals –in another last try for deer, but no use. Had hoped to send you some.”
